Yes. The minimum age to follow a course with us is 18.

Students with some knowledge of Portuguese may start on any Monday. For complete beginners, there are starting dates every 2 weeks.

Yes. We have groups in all levels from complete beginner(A1) to proficiency (C2). Course levels are linked to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), and learning objectives for each course are expressed in can-do statements.

On average, it takes 4-6 weeks to complete one level.

CIAL’s approach is based on communicative language teaching methodology, placing emphasis on language for communication. Lessons are planned to include a balanced combination of activities to help students learn and practice the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Yes, all students get a certificate. It can be an Attendance Certificate for those who don’t complete a level or a Completion Certificate for those who pass the final test.

Yes. CIAL is accredited by the Ministry of Education, Instituto Camões and DGERT in Portugal and IALC and EAQUALS, internationally.

The courses, starting dates and contents are the same in both schools. It really depends on the type of experience you are looking for and the type of city you prefer. You may also combine the two cities during your program.

Yes. CIAL offers several choices of accommodation in both cities for those students who are interested.

Accommodation is available from the Sunday before your course starts to the Saturday after it ends.

Yes. Students are met by a member of the school staff bearing a CIAL sign with the school logo and the student’s name.

Sim. Existe um programa mensal de atividades que inclui filmes e palestras na escola, visitas guiadas a museus e monumentos, espetáculos de música ao vivo, bares e visitas aos sábados de manhã a pontos de interesse na cidade.

On the first day there will be an interview and a written placement test so you can be integrated in a group at your level.

To move from one level to the next, students need to pass the test with a grade of 75% or more.

The maximum is 8 students per group for General Portuguese Courses and 12 for Easter, Christmas and Erasmus courses.

A standard lesson is 50 minutes.

Textbooks and printouts are included. Exercises and grammar books may be bought at CIAL.
